Laura Lamers and her husband Dr. Mark Lamers moved to Humboldt County from Los Angeles, CA in June 2008 seeking a more wholesome life for their two children Alex and Thea Lamers who are now age 15 and 13. Laura is a retired technology consultant and owns NorthCoast Knittery in Old Town Eureka. Laura was highly successful in the technology sector, which has been dominated by men, and throughout her 25-year career, Laura has been a fierce supporter of Women’s Rights. Her artistic passion called to her when she moved to Humboldt County and in October of 2008 when she opened NorthCoast Knittery. Laura was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2010 and opted for treatment out of the area. Laura’s cancer returned in 2014 and today she spends her time at her shop, teaching people how to knit, designing new patterns and sharing her journey with others.
